In one of the best heavyweight contests in recent memory, Joshua inflicted an 11th-round TKO on Klitschko in front of a record 90,000 crowd at Wembley in April. While Pulev has only lost once, to Klitschko, in 26 professional fights, his low profile makes for a tough sell for Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn. However, should Joshua extend his record to 20-0 as expected, it clears the way to set up a lucrative unification bout against Kiwi WBO champion Joseph Parker, who takes on Hughie Fury in Manchester on September 23, or WBC title-holder Deontay Wilder.Meanwhile, it is has been reported that negotiations are in the works for Wilder to meet undefeated Cuban knockout artist Luis Ortiz in Brooklyn on November 4.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram With Wladimir Klitschko no longer an option, it appears world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has found his next opponent.Reports in Britain claim Joshua will put his IBF and WBA Super titles on the line against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in Cardiff on October 28.According to the UK’s Mirror, the undefeated Brit has been ordered by the IBF to face Pulev, the mandatory challenger, after a rematch with Klitschko fell through due to the latter’s retirement.Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev Pulev has only lost once in 26 professional fights.
Life has not been found on Mars, but some scientists, according to National Geographic News, are worried that we are contaminating the planet with Earth germs that will make the search for Martians more difficult. Speaking of Mars, a report in Science Now claims that Mars rarely got above freezing in its entire history. The life-on-Mars angle is not news, but life on Titan? Sure enough, two astrobiologists, according to New Scientist, are claiming there might be faint evidence for life on the frozen moon of Saturn among the barbecue lighter fluid (see 04/25/2005 entry). Based on initial chemical analysis from the Huygens Probe (see 01/21/2005 and 01/15/2005 stories), Chris McKay and Heather Smith think something might be feasting on gas. “They think the microbes would breathe hydrogen rather than oxygen, and eat organic molecules drifting down from the upper atmosphere,” especially energy-rich acetylene, according to the report. Better keep that oxygen from Saturn’s rings away (see 02/28/2005 entry), or the whole moon might blow like a torch. That produces some follow-up speculations. Would such an event cook the life well done? If a barbecue happens with no one around to eat it, is there really a taste?McKay ought to know better. He knows chemistry, and he knows thermodynamics. If life is information made flesh (see 06/25/2005 article), where is he going to import that ingredient? Astrobiologists are going to lose their last smidgeon of credibility totally if they keep pushing the myth that life just happens everywhere just because they need to justify their careers. Honesty is the best policy.(Visited 8 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
Kelt-11b is a new exoplanet discovered by researchers in South Africa, collaborating with others from around the world. The discovery further solidifies South Africa’s reputation as a global leader in astronomy. An artist’s impression of Kelt-11b, the newly discovered exoplanet, orbiting its host star, Kelt-11. (Image: Walter Benjamin, SAAO)Compiled by Priya PitamberA new exoplanet, described as “puffed up”, “bloated”, and “having the density of Styrofoam” has been discovered by researchers at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO), working together with others from around the world. An exoplanet, or extrasolar planet, is a planet that orbits a star outside our solar system. The newly discovered exoplanet, named Kelt-11b, is orbiting a star 320 light years away and shares some similarities with Jupiter and Saturn because it is also a gas giant. But there are differences too.“The new exoplanet orbits its host star — called Kelt-11 — so closely that it completes an orbit in less than five days,” said the SAAO. “Kelt-11b has only a fifth of Jupiter’s mass, but is 40% larger in radius. This means that this new bloated planet has about the same density as Styrofoam.”Watch:The SAAO’s Dr Rudi Kuhn said it was an exciting discovery. “The planet Kelt-11b orbits one of the brightest stars known to host an exoplanet and is one of the most inflated planets ever discovered.”This would enable researchers to make detailed observations of the atmospheric composition of the exoplanet using much larger telescopes such as the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), Kuhn said.“This will help us understand how these giant planets are formed, why they have such small orbits as well as what might happen to them in the future.”#KELT11b SAAO’s Dr Tana Joseph says “It’s great that our small telescopes are doing world-class science”. KB— EWN Reporter (@ewnreporter) April 20, 2017#KELT11b Joseph, “people come from all over world to the site in Sutherland, because of the geographical advantage.” KB— EWN Reporter (@ewnreporter) April 20, 2017How it worksTwo small robotic telescopes are part of the Kelt (Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope) with Kelt-North in Arizona in the US, and Kelt-South in Sutherland, South Africa. Kuhn helped with the construction of Kelt-South.“The exoplanet was first discovered with the Kelt-South telescope and thereafter monitored by many telescopes around the world operated by researchers at universities as well as telescopes operated by amateur astronomers,” said the organisation. What the researchers knowAccording to research findings published in The Astronomical Journal:Kelt-11 is the brightest known transiting exoplanet host in the southern hemisphere; It has a large atmospheric scale height, 2,763km, and;Because of those characteristics, it could become the benchmark of the study of such exoplanets.Source: SAAOWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Uber vs Lyft: Battling for Supremacy Sales is a difficult job with representatives working long hours to meet demanding quotas while keeping clients loyal and returning for repeat business. While good sales reps remain dedicated to hitting their company’s goals, the chance for employee burnout while doing so is high. There are seven strategies that boost sales productivity. You’ll need strategies that boost sales productivity, as competitors will always be looking to swipe your prospects.Fortunately, sales reps are naturally competitive individuals driven by a desire to win, increase personal excellence, and be their company’s top performer. It falls on sales operations to find the right tools and processes to enable those sales reps to maintain that edge and continue hitting their targets. The following are seven practical tools and strategies sales reps can use to help their reps work more efficiently without feeling the burnout. Ultimately, well-planned strategy will boost productivity and drive your company revenue.Clean and Actionable Sales Performance Management (SPM) DataData must be usable. There is a lot of SPM data everywhere, but until it’s clean, organized, and centralized, it is nothing more than a lot of names and numbers. Ironically, sales data contains some of a business’ most valuable information. This SPM data will provide critical insights into the all-important, but often elusive, customer journey. Much of the sales data has gone unmanaged, and CRM data has taken priority. This does a disservice to organizations since CRM data is subjective and dependent on sales and marketing people to update it.Sadly, both the sales and marketing departments have been responsible for procuring information and adding updates. The habit of having departments with somewhat unique goals — leave inaccurate information in the file. We now have the most erroneous data source in the archives.Companies with large salesforces in highly competitive markets are starting to understand that the data unlocked by their sales performance management (SPM) systems.Your SPM system might hold the keys to the kingdom for your company. The most advanced SPM platforms will already have the capability to pull data in from almost any source in a matter of hours (not days). Use this accurate data accessible to help sales leaders readily identify geographies with ease.Note how quickly you see the potential for business growth and cross-selling productivity opportunities.Combine accessible, accurate data and no-code application development capabilities. That enables quick development of focused reports; sales leaders can quickly and easily activate that data and provide sales reps instant access to the key insights that will help them achieve their goals quickly and efficiently.No-Code Apps Fast and actionable data is crucial for salespeople to close deals quickly. It’s essential for sales people to promptly analyze actionable insights to make more informed and impactful decisions. Sales reps will focus on the right opportunities using no-code data management tools.Gaining instant access to information about customers and prospects in a timely and efficient manner is the key to boost sales.No-code applications enable sales to validate and pre-process data via no-code extract, transform, and load (ETL) capabilities. These capabilities allow the data to be consolidated and organized without sales having to work with additional third-party tools or write complicated code.Automating the time-consuming code writing process enables sales to pull aggregated data in a matter of minutes. You’ll give your salespeople more time to do what they do best quickly and efficiently – sell.Real-Time Performance MetricsIn order to help sales reps succeed and achieve professional satisfaction, they must have visibility into their performance metrics. How many calls are they making? How many meetings have they scheduled? How many deals are they closing? The data shared through SPM data provides sales with this valuable information, allowing them to measure their own performance. Salespeople can see where they want to pick up the pace to close more deals.Sales Pipeline Analysis Sales must perform ongoing analysis of its sales pipeline – tracking opportunities from the first contact to a closed sale. Sales pipeline analysis enables the transactions data to monitor the unfolding sales process and reveal which areas have the potential for improvement.Analyzing the data helps reps achieve their objectives by allowing them to make accurate forecasts based on the number and quality of leads in the sales pipeline. To perform this analysis successfully and to achieve the desired results, sales reps need to identify the pipeline stages in the particular selling process. You’ll see the number of deals in the pipeline, the average sales cycle, win rates, average deal sizes, and even the stagnant opportunities. These stages should flow logically, smoothly leading prospects from one step to the next, all the way to closing the sale.Mobile Alerts and Accessibility Mobile apps are geared toward the always-on-the-go sales rep. They ensure reps get instant access to crucial information about clients and prospects. You’ll facilitate collaboration and communication with managers and colleagues. By using mobile apps to visualize and act upon real-time business metrics, sales reps are empowered to exceed across individual and team goals.Additionally, mobile productivity calculators allow sales reps to gauge their own performance against their coworkers wherever they might be, providing clear, concise “need-to-know” intel that helps them reach their next sales goal quickly.GamificationThe use of mobile apps has also spurred on greater interest in gamification, which is a great tool that resonates well with competitive sales reps who want to win and be recognized for their efforts. With things like leaderboards, gamification naturally taps into this competitive nature. Allow reps to see how they are performing against their colleagues. Gamification can also be used for administrative tasks, like filling out forms and updating sales data. Giving sales recognition for doing these tasks may seem trivial, but it keeps them motivated.CommunicationSales reps want to know how they are performing at all times. As a result, many organizations are increasingly utilizing technology to support those on the frontline.Digital platforms that combine messaging capabilities with incentive compensation systems enable sales operations to inform sales reps. The sales rep needs information about comp plan changes, territories, contests, and other vital matters that affect the quality of their performance. This includes clear communication of targets and goals, ways to close more deals quickly. The reps will learn how to strengthen relationships with customers and turn repeat customers into champions for the organization. Also, sales ops have robust reporting analytics to coach their sales reps in these matters effectively.ConclusionSales reps work hard to earn their compensation year-round. Your reps should be equipped with the tools and strategies that help them hit their quotas, and close those long-lead sales more quickly and efficiently. By using strategic tools that enable them to sell more effectively, sales reps can work more efficiently during the day and hit their organization’s goals, all without feeling the burn. TWILLINGATE, N.L. – For years, drivers along Newfoundland’s Road to the Isles thought the orange circles around the highway’s notorious potholes were put there by the Department of Transportation. The spray-painted markings were actually the work of Ernest Barnes, the “Pothole Man.”The 70-year-old resident of Summerford, N.L., has made it his mission to keep drivers safe by drawing attention to the holes in the road.“All the tourists I’ve talked to, they really love Newfoundland and the people of Newfoundland,” he says. “But the roads, they don’t like.”Barnes hits the highways along the province’s north coast for four to five hours every day, looking for potholes to paint. He’s already covered an area from Twillingate to Lewisporte, paying close attention to Port Albert, where tourists travel to take the ferry to picturesque Fogo Island. As a motorcycle rider, Barnes says he’s particularly concerned for riders who could be injured, and for tourists who aren’t prepared for such rough roads.Barnes has been spray-painting potholes for years, but he says this year’s crop is particularly large — he’s already emptied about two dozen cans of paint, and he’s cleared the local hardware store of its stock. It might seem like an expensive enterprise for a senior, but as word of Barnes’ safety crusade has spread, others have stepped in to help. Some supporters have approached Barnes in parking lots and out on the road to offer change and paint to help with his cause. The provincial Transport Department says road repairs in the area will be carried out over the next three years. In an emailed statement, the department said maintenance on the province’s roads is arranged on a priority basis. The department also says the Pothole Man is taking big risks.“Residents taking it upon themselves to mark sections of the highway for repairs pose potential safety risks to themselves and other motorists, and the department does not condone this activity,” spokesperson Brian Scott said in an email. But Barnes isn’t concerned about his safety. He says the government should direct its attention to the motorists at risk when driving on uneven roads.“I still have eyes, and I’m not deaf so I can hear the vehicles, and I do have a vest that I can wear, a safety vest,” said Barnes. “I’m gonna die sometime, so if I get killed, well at least they can say he was trying to help someone else, right?”Now that his identity as the highway’s pothole protector is out, drivers sometimes honk their horns and stop to thank him. Last week, one woman pulled over to hand him a can of paint.Barnes has been marking potholes all spring and summer. He says he’ll keep at it as long as he has the means.“As long as people are donating paint and donating a few dollars to buy it — because I can’t buy it on my own. I’m only a senior, right? And there’s only so much money you’ve got and you can spend.”— By Holly McKenzie-Sutter in St. John’s.
