first_imgMay 6, 2018 /Sports News – Local BYU/Utah Compete At Sacramento State Open FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailSACRAMENTO, Calif.-Saturday, Brigham Young and Utah’s track and field squads competed at the Sacramento State Open, if, for nothing else, because the NCAA West regionals will be here later this month.It’s always wise, if you have the opportunity, to prepare yourself for a track surface and land for field events where you will prepare to contend for a national championship.The Cougars appeared to adapt just fine as the Cougar men won the title with 180 points, besting host Sacramento State, who finished second with 157 points. The Brigham Young women dominated the field, posting 182 points and Sacramento State was far behind with 156 points. Utah’s women placed sixth with 21 points.To start things off, Brigham Young’s Dallin Farnsworth won the men’s 5000-meter dash in a time of 14:23.43. His teammate, Connor Weaver, finished close behind him at 14:24.98.The Cougars also swept the men’s and women’s 3000-meter steeplechases as Sara Musselman won the women’s event in 10:25.99 and the men’s winner was Porter Reddish, posting a time of 8:53.00.The men’s 1500-meter run saw Marcus Dickson win the individual crown for the Cougars, posting a time of 3:46.67.The women’s 4 x 100 relay was won by the Cougars in a time of 45.61 seconds, while Keesha Miller, Haley Rogers, Ellie Quackenbush and Madie Mathews were on this winning squad.The women’s 100-meter hurdles title was won by the Cougars’ Nicole Lord in 14.03 seconds.The women’s 400-meter dash saw Brigham Young’s Lauren Rawlinson place second, while Jackie Martin and Mesa Weidle of Utah placed fifth and sixth, respectively.The men’s and women’s 100-meter dashes were both won by Cougar athletes with the women’s title being won by Keesha Miller in 12.01 seconds and Clark Brown was first with 10.48 seconds.In the women’s 800-meter run, Brigham Young’s Karina Haymore placed second and Utah’s Grace Englund placed fourth with the Cougars’ Taylor Cox placing sixth overall.David Graham of Brigham Young placed second in the boys’ 800-meter run and the Cougars swept both 400-meter hurdles titles. The women’s winner was Brenna Porter in 58.20 seconds and Colten Yardley won the men’s title in 52.18 seconds.The women’s high jump title was won by Brigham Young’s Andrea Stapleton with a leap of 5 feet and 9-75 inches.
