Nixon ran against incumbent governor Andrew Cuomo who will now contest the mid-term election in November.Cuomo won 65.6% of the overall votes, with Nixon winning 34.4% of votes in the state.The Sex and the City star ran as more left-wing alternative to Cuomo and promised to make changes on the environment and women’s rights. She also campaigned on ensuring housing affordability and to stop US President Donald Trump’s forced deportation of families.She said that she had hope for a different outcome, she believed her campaign changed New York’s political landscape.‘While the result tonight wasn’t what we had hoped for, I’m not discouraged. I’m inspired. I hope you are too.
